Well well well, I guess you can get DDR SDRAM for the same price as PC133 :p

<< Micron just send us a 128 MB PC1600DDR DIMM (78$, CAS2) for review, so I tried them out on the Corona reference board of AMD, together with a Duron 600. This board forces a 266 MHz FSB, and the Duron (600 MHz, FSB 200 MHz) overclocked to 800 MHz.

What surprised me was that the PC1600 overclocked without any trouble to PC2100 cas 2.5! I tried several game benchmarks, and yes, the system is stable. Of course, this is only one DIMM, but it is still cool. Seems like Micron is getting very good yields on the PC1600 DIMMs. Maybe overclokkers will be able to buy PC2100 capable DDR for the price of PC133 SDRAM...

Score! :D

Good find Ace Reporter! ;)

Heh, only problem is finding an AMD 760 board. ;) The ALi board is slower than the KT133A so it isn't worth it IMHO. If a DDR board costs the same as a KT133A board come march- I am going to get that and some PC1600 and, hopefully by then, a palomino and overclock till my system cries out, "No zippy, don't hurt me!" <system proceeds to wet it's pants in fear- err...crash>

Heheh. :)

On second thought, what sense would that make? Wouldn't Micron want you to buy the faster (and more expensive) ram?

If the slower memory OC'd that well, just think what the faster might do. Micron probably did handpick it. It's "odd" how often reviewers have fantastic overclocking results when the average user who buys one from the store can't achieve anywhere near the same results. Reviewers, especially from the larger sites that can easily afford it, should buy the products they review to guarantee they aren't getting hand picked, pretested hardware.

heh, well we'll see whether or not this happens to be true in real life, if it IS, it'll be a boost to the DDR mainboard market! it is thouroghly needed IMHO.
