Certain credit cards double your warranty. Of course if your TV is over 2 years old, or you didn't use one of those credit cards, then you're probably screwed.

You might have a case if you approach Panasonic saying that you would expect a premium product to last more than 2 years. You may be able to convince them to make a contribution to the repair.

You probably won't get anything from them, but it's worth a shot.

Chances are though with these fancy complicated modern TVs that it won't be repairable (especially if some parts have released their magic smoke) - in which case it'll be time to look for a new one.

My seven year old 52 incher croaked last weekend. The last time it died it cost me $400 to have the power supply circuit board replaced. This time I fixed it myself. I replaced the power regulator chip on the board and all is well again. I repaired the board because the board is no longer available. ;)

thx for the help. I opened it up and looked around for a burnt capacitor but there are about 500 in there and I haven't seen it yet. Hope it's not the power supply

...because it could be a hundred other things besides a capacitor...

THat's why you should buy the extended warranties on things that are that expensive...

Extended warranties are evil, remember (not). . .

Meanwhile my mother's 27 year old 27 inch console floor model still works fine. . .

Gotta love the 'new' products.

It's just the power supply. $150 should fix it.

My Panasonic did the same thing...after exactly two years!

One day it started making this snapping noise, it would start to shut off. Then it did the exact same thing yours does, it's a short in the PS caused by a buildup of dust. A capacitor starts to charge, then discharges, tv goes to sleep.

Yes it's the exact same symptom. I heard like a clicking noise (? hard to exactly describe it), then it shut itself off. Where did you find the part Dean?
