When a laptop battery catches fire on the airplane, that's when they'll be banned...

Dang...

are you suggesting Sony is a terrorist organization? and they created exploding batteries for the purpose of blowing airplanes out of the sky?

No they aren't...unless I missed something. I brought my Inspiron 9300 on a trip with me just a few weeks ago, and I'll be taking it with me in another week on a trip to Kentucky...

Got some linkage for this or are you just repeating something you heard somewhere?

Edit:

I take it back...Korean Air bans them unless the batteries are removed and put in check luggage, and Qantas won't let you plug them in to their power with the batteries intact.

Good thing I don't fly Korean Air much... :p

Qantas has banned at least one brand from operating on battery power, Dell?

Also, lmao at this comment...

I think it's time to start a new airline called OrgyAir. It'll have a frequent flyer program known as the Mile High Club. The key to the profitability of this airline would be to require that all passengers fly nude. This would cut down on the costs associated with complying to every new 'security' policy enacted.

So who wants to fly the new, more secure, OrgyAir?

Lame. What if you had your battery replaced by Dell? (I did) Not that I'm flying to Korea anytime soon (ever).

Not sure...my battery wasn't a recalled one..so no clue. I don't use it on the plane much anyhow...it's too damn big. A 17" WS is not condusive to use on a plane..lol.

I have 3 boxes full of batteries behind me right now. I'm afraid they could explode at any moment.

This is ridiculous. Of all the laptops out there, only a few exploded, it's only more popular now because people are actually reporting them to the media.

/me eyes his T42p warily.

Maybe I should start storing the laptop in a fireproof container when not in use.

Terrorist.

Funny thing is that they're all neatly stacked in the inner sanctum of a government building :p

Easily more than 75 batteries due for that recall from Dell alone, from our Dell pool of 150 or so laptops. There are 250 more IBM T-Series floating around there..... And a few dozen A-series.

Yep, they are. Virgin and at least one other I can't recall ATM, at least.

Read the thread...Korean Airlines..

Also, Virgin does not ban Apple and Dell laptops...just using them with the battery in...
As a result of the current problems being experienced by the Apple and Dell Corporations with some of the batteries fitted to some of their laptops, as a safety precaution and with immediate effect, customers wanting to use an Apple or Dell laptop on board can only do so if the battery is removed. Any removed or spare batteries must be individually wrapped/protected and placed in your Carry On Baggage. This is limited to two batteries per passenger.

In cabins where the seats are fitted with In Seat Power Supplies, leads/adapters will be offered. Where no ISPS is provided or no laptop leads/adapters are available, the use of Apple and Dell laptops is prohibited.

Virgin is in communication with Apple and Dell. As soon as this safety issue is resolved these restrictions will be lifted.
