Uh oh, I don't think I'm gonna make it in Comp. Engineering...

I just took a mathematics placement test to see what class I would get placed into my freshman year. I got a 2 on a scale of 1-6! That's pretty bad. But, there was stuff on there I'd never seen before. I took Honors Trig last semester, but the farthest we got was the circle with the radians and degrees and all that.

So, they recommended summer school, which I am unable to do, although they said that the progress through my curriculum will be delayed by taking math 104 and 103 before I get into Calculus. Maybe I can make that up by going to summer school next year.

🙁

Well if you're doing computer engineering you really should be taking at least a full year of calculus before college...problem is you are a year behind

edit: what if you just learn the calculus on your own and retake the placement test? buy a textbook. it'll be like college. professors don't actually teach there anyway

Yeah, I could have done that if I had taken Algebra 1 back in 8th grade, but unfortunately I didn't care too much about school work back then.

whether or not you get in is based on how well you do in the classes you take, how far you were when you started taking them. as long as you do good in the prereq classes, you'll be fine.

yeah but you are going to need calculus prerequisite for a lot of other computer engineering curriculum classes that you will be taking first year or 3rd semester. Such as Physics

You could've taken placement tests in highschool. You can skip a prerequisite class just taking those exams. I've seen people going from Geometry to Calculus within a year. Don't get deterred though.. if you keep up with your Calculus class and really know what you are doing then it shouldn't be a problem. You'll behind.. but everything is fresh in your mind. I remember having to take circuit classes and totally have to look back to differential equations that I took like a year or two ago. So, you'll be at an advantage.

graduating with my B.S. in Computer Engineering this May. I definitely had my bumps in the road and managed a cumulative gpa around 3.0 but it's a great field.

Even if you're not the best in the classroom, I HIGHLY recommend going out every summer, putting a resume together, and trying to get experience through internships, job shadowing, etc. It helps a lot.

I'm feeling pretty confident now that I'm ready to go out into the working world
