uh oh, I changed memtest86 to run ALL tests instead of standard and now I'm getting errors

After 9 hours and 30 minutes I have 6226 errors. Is this expected? Is this bad? Should I exchange the memory?

So what do I tell NewEgg for the reason I am returning it and will they send me the RAM before they receive the bad RAM back or will I be stuck without a PC for a while?

The first thing you need to do is make sure you're not trying to make the RAM do something it's not designed to do. Set your machine to all the standard timing, voltage, and speed settings and try MemTest again.

I agree. But after it runs one pass at 200 (all other things factory), try 210. It should do that. since the memory is rated at 216.

Very true, I just assumed this to be the case considdering the other thread(the Prime95 one).
Also, if you have another stick laying you might wanna try that, I ran into a box with a similar problem, at first I thought it was the RAM, but after testing a bunch of sticks, all which checked out fine in another computer, I blamed the mobo.

well the time it ran for 9.5 hours was at all stock settings. After I got home from school and noticed I had errors I upped the DDR voltage to 2.7. Memtest86 detected errors within seconds. I'm going to set it at default settings and try one more time, after that I'll try one stick at a time (I have 2 x 512) and then I'll make another post.

no errors right away like expected so i'll check back...i am however expecting them. I was away when it ran for 9.5 hours so I have no idea when the errors occured. Could have been the last hour. I'll also go through the individual tests.

Now you're on the right track. Do everything slowly and metodically, changing only one thing at a time, and making notes of all you do. Hopefully you'll answer your own questions.

You could try the reseller, newegg, or you could RMA since it sounds like the ram is defective. Check manufacturer policies against newegg's to figure out which is best.

Alright so I ran memtest86 with stock settings on everything and It ran for quite a while...overnight actually. But I didn't realize that when you have all tests enabled it takes forever, so I closed it. Rather than run it all over again at stock I upped my FSB to 215. Here are the results:

FSB: 215
Walltime: 23:00:00
Tests: All
Current Test: #11
Pass 98%
Pass 1
Errors 0

Anything else I'm forgetting. By the way, it's still running, is 22 hours long enough to turn it off? I have no idea where the errors I was originally getting came from. Perhaps it was the voltage because I had it at 2.7 rather than auto.

Memtest86 does not detect all memory errors anyway. I think you have tested long enough. Load windows, do some more stability tests in Windows. Prime95 actually is good at detecting memory errors (do not use small fft nor check "in-place" in custom test if you want to test memory).

Dude, this sounds like I what I did when testing out my new Kingston HyperX PC3500 dimms last summer. With Memtest, when running the tests at either the standard tests or all tests you should run it on the standard chipset mode. After a few rounds of standard and complete tests, accidental I changed the chipset setting in Memtest to a different chipset. I immediately got hundreds of errors within seconds on my ram.

Maybe your not running Memtest86 @ the default settings. If you read the readme file, I think it mentions getting endless false positives if your not using th default setting.

Just a thought.
