the point is if you act like a fool while driving you shouldn't blame someone else for the results of your foolhardy actions (or inactions as the case may be).

I disagree with the assertion that the CG of Suburban,Explorer or Expedition would be signficantly higher than the equiviant P/U. The volume above the level a P/u bed would be is mostly air. Adding a camper shell to the P/U would have nearly the same effect on the CG.

It's not mostly air. Not only is the structure beefed up for SUV duty (i.e. fully boxed frame rails and such), the added weight of second and third row seats, along with add safety protection, the weight of side glass for the rear door, and side glass behind, the doors, glass on the tailgate, and the add support structures for the roof, and the roof itself add weight to the frame. And that weight is place up high.

NEXT!!!!:D

yeah, way to go futuramatic. you were completely irresponsible, driving like that and falling asleep. and what if there had been someone in that back seat? they would have been DEAD, but it wouldn't have mattered, because you didn't get hardly a scratch on your vehicle. gee let's think, scratch on a vehicle versus a human life.... yup, good thing you had that SUV!!

Triumph-

I screwed up, and I thank God there was not anyone in the back seat. They would not have been killed, but they may have been sore from the shock. I am glad you have never made an error, at least here is one perfect person in this world.

That car would have been crushed had I driven a Volkswagon. Shut the hell up and crawl back in your hole.

i seriously doubt that the back seat of that car would still have been crushed if you were driving a Volkswagen. that's just the way physics works.

i hate the way these SUV owners have this "looking out for number 1" idea about driving. sure, that's a basic human instinct, but why do you have a right to life any more than the people in the other car during a crash? because you can afford a 40,000 dollar lincoln navigator? driving should NOT be survival of the fittest! (or largest)if people knew how to drive considerately, then we would have a lot less problems on the road.

I love laying the smack down on SUV's when I occasionally drive.
they tailgate me, mash the gas good, and they never see it coming.
who would think a 1986 Parisienne could do what mine does?
(factory, bone stock, but driven by my dad ---> slowly, VERY slowly for 170k)
Still has load of power in it (250lb/f @ 2400rpm :p)

BTW: how many people actually use their SUV for it *cough* """intended purpose"""

Futuramic, what's your argument?
The bumper's on the SUV's come pretty close to car windows, and are definitely not positioned to impact a car where it can best accept the impact. Otherwise, SUV bumpers would align with car bumpers.

<< If an SUV is going to kill you in an accident, it is going to be due to sheer force. A car or truck can inflict the same damage. The difference is that an SUV will survive the crash. And you know what? I bet that pisses a lot of people of. Some people get out of a car after an encounter with an SUV, and they are pissed that they had their car smashed, but the SUV can drive away. Again, no logical arguement here. >>

Yes there is a logical argument here, and you just made it for me. Cars are designed to Absorb impact of high speed collision, and that's why they get more smashed up, but it's safer for the other car. SUV's are designed with no consideration for the safety of others. And believe me, if I get hit by an SUV, last thing on my mind will be how much damage the SUV has. And if you kill someone with your SUV in a crash, I doubt that a low repair bill will make you feel less guilty.

as many people mentioned, it depends who's driving SUV, as with any other car. There are idiots behind any kind of wheel, and anyone of them can cause an incident. Each car has its own limitation as well. I don't think normal person will take his Ferrari into woods for some "offroading", as well as people don't take SUVs on the race track. What "Dateline" did is pretty much found weakest point in SUV, in other words, making sharp turns @70mph. Gee, of couse it is going to roll over! Why they didn't take Toyota Camry and let it drive from a steep mountain? Who's going to roll over than ??? Dateline likes to take facts to extreme, and the scary thing is that innocent people out there actually believe to everything they say...
