Just when I'd finally and properly kicked my bigscreen tv bug, a guy who's wife is super anal with the finances SOMEHOW - in the name of God I don't know how - agreed to buy him a big tv so he's having it shipped tomorrow. He's my boss and I'm going up to huntsville for the staff party tomorrow so I'll probably end up having to see it and then I will once again have to fight the big screen tv bug if it makes a good impression on me

He got a 56" panasonic from CC along with a $400 surround sound included free. Not a bad deal.

Skoorb believe me you are not the only one with that bug. I've been resisiting it for years and I can barely stand it any longer. I already have a surround sound setup and I want that damn big screen! :D

Haha, it's better than the tv speakers he's used to :)

Me too - I've got a decent surround setup mated to a 27" TV I paid $350 for two years back. Somewhat painful, to be sure.

Just buy the thing already! What, are you scared your wife won't approve? Sucks to her!! :D
I bought one last year, and it's the best purchase of ANY sort I've ever made. I've got so much entertainment out of it, it's paid for itself easily.

No, she's good for it. It would take almost no convincing at all to get one for my birthday present in January. I just don't want to blow $1500 or 2k on something that sucks and I have a few concerns, like viewing angle and nondigital picture, before I drop the cashola. I WILL have one. I'm just waiting for the opportune moment :)

I remember my days as a Good Guys salesman, anytime I sell a guy a 10K system some of them would consider it a 20K purchase, because he then would have to get the wife something, it evens out the equation.

Just get a little one, like a 47 incher. They're a lot less than 1500, will give you a taste of large screen HDTV, and will be worth something to someone in 5 years when the superior technology starts coming down in price and you want to upgrade.
Viewing angle can be a concern, but if it's you and you're woman watching TV I doubt you're each going to be sitting on different sides of the room at extreme angles. Unless there's something else you're not telling us. ;)

Are you going to have time to enjoy your toys, when you are working 2 jobs?

$400 will almost buy you an Onkyo Receiver/5.1 surround sound system....which is an excellent system (subwoofer putting out 150 watts, each satellite putting out 50 watts).....if youhaven't heard that system go before, you should check it out :)

We have a 57" Sony WS with the Onkyo SR601 HT system. It sits there unused when I'm home all day. Once my fiancee comes home, it doesn't get turned off until she goes to bed.

Depends on the person. ;)

Actually it's nice for the XBOX though.

Jealous? :D If he only keeps his bigscreen for five years it would still only cost a dollar and some change a day. You can hardly buy a bottle of soda for that much. It's something he will look at and enjoy everyday. Seems like a good investment to me.

blah no rptv for me. The ones in the uk suck ass and not much of a market for them here.

Hopefully mid next year my dad will drop some £££ on a plasma if the price is right. Just a bit too high for his liking at the moment.....

Jealous = No
You can say the same to every consumable out there, but killing yourself at your job to satisfy your spending habit is not a healthy life style.

PS. I haven't watch TV or have cable service for over 12 years.

But you apparently have a computer, so... so what? Six of one and a half dozen of the other please :p A dollar a day hardly seems like lavish spending to me. He might even save money by staying home to watch movies on the bigscreen rather than going out :D I don't watch network TV either, but I like watching movies on the bigscreen.

PS. I haven't given out finacial advice over the internet for over 12 years.
