Uh, is it me or does oatmeal cure bad breath?

I've been eating oatmeal for the past couple of weeks and i've noticed that i don't have the rancid taste in my mouth that i usually have in the morning. I kinda know my breath is bad by the taste in my mouth... and it seems that after eating oatmeal, it goes away. I don't have the nerve to ask someone to smell my breath to see if it's really gone though...

Edit: Has anyone else experienced this phenomenon?

I eat altoids and it does the same thing.

Yeah, for some crazy scientific reason my breath improves when i put a mint in my mouth! wowzors!

You wake up without bad breath? Or you eat it and then your bad breath is gone? Because if it is the latter, then you haven't found a breakthrough.

you can eat almost anything when you wake up and the yucky taste in your mouth from overnight would go away.

😕

lack of saliva on the tongue = bacteria survive = bad breath

when you sleep, your brain basically ceases saliva production and that's why we have "morning breath". Some simply have it worse than others.

And check this from therabreath.com: Only 2% of the worlds population are born with Streptococcus salivarius strain K12. These people hardly ever have bad breath.

I think he's asking no more bad breath in the morning when waking up in the morning.

no no no, i have bad breath in the morning... then i eat oatmeal and (i think) it goes away. At least the nasty taste. And it goes away permantely. I used to eat cereal and the bad taste would go away but come back in an hour or two.

Milk anytime -> bad breath, whether you have it with or without cereal. Possibly unrelated, you'll be amazed at how brushing teeth helps with bad breath 😉

Brushing teeth doesn't help squat.... you need to brush your tongue and the roof of your mouth...

Yes - when I "brush my teeth" - it includes my gums, teeth, tongue and roof of my mouth...

Oatmeal is a natural deodorizer since it's so absorbant. You can pour it in foul smelling shoes, place bags of it in closets, in the fridge, or whereever and it will absorb odors. Old housekeeping trick 🙂

If everyone in the world ate garlic all the time we'd habitualize and no one would ever have bad breath.

Since when does coffee cause bad breath?

Test for bad breath: Lick the back of your hand, allow to dry. Smell hand. Smell bad? Bad breath.
