Ok, when I first assembled the CPU and Motherboard it had some problems.. but I fixed them. I noticed the CPU running 40C which is perfectly fine.. Then after awhile it was up around 50-55C... I know that's high, but still normal for a idle/used CPU. So I install everything... Video Drivers/AGP Drivers/Sound Drivers... DX 9.0c April. and I install everything.. Games seem to run perfectly fine.. But now I install Counter-Strike 1.6, and so far it hasn't done this on other games but the buttons flicker, like Start/Servers etc.. only in the game.. So I figure what the hell.. I go into game and my FPS exceed 60 and my ping is below 50ms.. when I press tab the score menu flickers every once in awhile and sides of box's flicker.

So I said hmm again what the hell...? So I finally start playing and all of a sudden the game freezes and exits, then my PC freezes... I reboot, I start playing and I get a couple kills then all of a sudden my PC just freezes. So I am weary about my CPU so I download SpeedFan.. At this current moment it reads 43C and when I'm in game it reads 50-53C.. Next to it, it shows a Fire Icon almost like it says it's over-heating... I thought 50C is normal for a CPU under use in a game? am I wrong? what other tests can I conduct?

what's the make and model of cpu and mobo? and your video card? Is it only causing the problem with counter-strike? How old is your computer? Try memtest to see if it's the RAM. Also try playing the game for a bit, turn off your computer quickly and enter BIOS to get another temp reading. You should be fine with those temps so I would tend to believe it's something other than the processor overheating.

The make is of my CPU = Intel 2.20 Celeron (478/NorthWood) and my motherboard = ASUS P4SDX and I have an XFX 6600GT 8X AGP Video card. So far it has only happened with Counter-Strike 1.6... I played Half-Life 2 for 10 minutes and no freeze ups slowdowns etc. I don't think it's my RAM I have switched it over and used it in a previous system not too long ago. The PC varies.. I built it. The CPU/Motherboard are about 2 years old, the rest of my system is a little under a year.

Ok, I just formatted and am working up updating my Counter-Strike 1.6 so I can re-test it... any other questions or programs etc.? I could try? I will do the BIOS thing once it's installed..

Ok, I ran Guild Wars and let my PSU go under 100% usage for about 10 minutes, I managed to reach 70C... Is this dangerous? I'm using stock cooling and I have never had this problem.. OMG I'm so mad if this si bad.

50-55c is not too hot, but 70c is definatly too high..my question is what power supply do you have? And is the fan working on your video card? THe flickering in games sounds more like an overheating or underpowered video card(or possibly a driver problem).

The flickering also sounds like a video card thing to me, but the temps are apparently only getting worse. Take off the heatsink and clean the CPU well with a coffee filter or something, then reapply a very thin layer of thermal paste, preferrably arctic sliver 5, since it is just about the best.

About the CPU, I can't do anything about it for a couple days.. Unless I can use Dielectric Compound but a friend told me I shouldn't. My GPU says it's temps are 60C, and I tried older drivers and it helped but game still did it.. I also took it out and switched power cords to it... I have a 300w Antec and the fan is on, all of my fans are on.. I even took the panels off my PC and moved wires.. Thus' far I'm starting to think it's the video card and not the CPU.. Can anyone help me out here!
