Just learned recently that NASA headquarters was to be in Kendall Square (MIT)in Cambridge Mass. Of course this spot was selected by JFK(Bostonian). Once JFK was killed, LBJ(Texan) chose Houston.

Ah, nepotism.

Agree with you about nepotism but wasnt Houston really a better choice due to the need of tracking equipment and the space necessary to host it? Been to Cambridge and not really a lot of open space there. Asimov's office might have helped though:D

TRP, you are reading my mind again!

I just had a lunch conversation with someone on this very subject. We pondered (in a layman's sense), why they didn't put all the NASA stuff in Florida near the launch sites, and why it was spread all over the place (The emergency landing field in Cal makes sense, though).

I thought it would make more sense to centralize it all in one place, since it reduces redundancy and saves money, but that has never been a high government priority...
