I bought the game already unfortunately.

I stopped playing in the campaign once i realized how absurdly retarded land combat was.

It's actually the latest drivers that broke the game worked/works fine on the old drivers.

Hadn't played in a while so I loaded it tonight and had the same defect, rolled back the drivers and all was well again.

Latest Catalysts worked fine for me in 1404 with my 4870X2- it must be your specific setup (or mine). Could also be things like AA or AF.

Just glad I finished the game without issue, had I not read this thread I may have never had known there was an issue on my system.

Sounds like it could be an ATI/driver issue as it plays flawlessly for me in win7x64 with a GTX 295.

Land combat is indeed pretty terrible, but that's not the point of the game anyway. It's a really good city builder and I play it just as much (or more) than E:TW or Civ 4 these days.

It was the ATI drivers that was the culprit. Just went back and installed 9.7 and everything works fine. I can't help but say I am still disappointed in this game. :/

Looked for something to replace CIV IV and it failed...

I've never played that. I'm pretty much FPS only. Looking at those screenshots, do you guys find the gfx distracting? The water looks very good, but the rest of it looks old as hell. It's like 1997 meets 2005 :^D

I'm not disappointing in the game at all. I played it first on the Nintendo DS, which is a very simplified version of the game. I was actually surprised at how in depth and deep the game became. I expected it to be much simpler like on the DS.

I could never get into Civ4, and I tried numerous times. I don't know if it's the turn based strategy or what. I just find the economy and city building of 1404 much funner.

And I think the game looks very good actually. Again, maybe I was used to the simple graphics on the DS, but the cities feel alive and vibrant and I thought looked very detailed and pretty.
