Uhm, no. I used as little as would hold it to be honest. It looks like a lot, but it ain't for the three that are near each other. I need the wirey stuff that sucks solder up to get it to be any less.

Oh it'll matter I've fixed a couple laptop jacks and have made the mistake of not using at least half way decent jacks. Even with them perfectly soldered in I still had problems with bad connections and shorts.

I got it from radioshack. It's some 25W radioshack soldering iron. I was going to get a Weller WES51, but it shot up in price.

K. I spent like $9 on the one I got. I'm really not interested in spending a lot of money on a soldering iron anymore. It's not worth the cost for someone like me who has shaky hands (Can't fix that) and who NEVER solders anything.

Let me guess you bought the new jack from some ebay seller in China for 3.50 and that included shipping.

Dude. I totally did and the shit took nearly 2 months with the first one to get here so I emailed them. They sent me another. One of them actually can fit the plugin for the powerjack. The other can't.... WTF. They looked really similar so I never tested.

I just removed the one that didn't work. (Every time I plugged it in there were some sparks that I saw)

This other one is useless because the diameter is too small. wtf....

God damnit!

Looking at those solder points, I'm not shocked that it doesn't work. It looks like someone ate some solder then threw up on the board.

You don't need to have a solder wick, a quality solder sucker (ESD Safe One) should have cleaned that right up with a good iron and a steady hand. If you didn't use an ESD Safe solder sucker that might be where the 10,000 volt surge came from that zapped the board. Hmmm

If that don't fix it, then the problem is electrical. Works for anything else in life too.

The soldering iron isn't the problem here. Take the jack out, clean it up, and try again. Either you fucked up the installation, or the jack's bad. Hopefully you didn't burn anything out when you plugged it in. I'll tell you what won't fix it, whining on AT. That might make you feel slightly better for whatever reason, but it just pisses everyone else off.
