I work for a medium-size privately held company. I found out recently that we are being bought by some larger entity (dunno who).
Now in the ISS dep't they are setting up a cubicle from someone "from the mothership" (buying company I assume)

Wonder why they are sending someone to look at our network/etc.

Blech.

Probably trying to set a value on your infrastructure as part of the aquisition process.
When a company I worked for got bought out, the first clue anybody had was when our overhead folks got a flash request for a current inventory on a friday afternoon ... to be completed by close of business. Nobody had a clue why until the aquisition was announced on Monday.

And yea, we got screwed.
Profit sharing that went between 4% and 9% a year disapeared.
Company 401K match cut in half.
Health benefits sucked.
IRAD program & technical career path gutted.
Cliff vesting replaced a more gradual schedule.
Vacation time increase schedule stretched absurdly.

Whole groups resigned, the original companies talent & contract base evaporated.

Not in my experience and I've been through 3 of them. Aside from the almost assured reduction of staff due to departmental redundancy, it always seems the new parent company will fire key personnel in the newly-acquired company and replace them with their own staff who generally tend to be sorely lacking in expertise in the new area they've assumed responsibility for. I'm a bit jaded but i've never been through an easy transition when employed by the smaller company and being bought out by a larger company. It always seems a bit of a bloodbath and way too much of a cluster-fvck.

General Motors sold us in '94

Talk about major anxiety. I had 14 years seniority and a good job.

But, all in all, it was the best thing that every happened to us.

I might not have my job if I was still working for GM.
