here is the dilemma i love my 50mm 1.8 more then any of the other lens's i own, but i hate how light it is
Its too light, with a heavier lens i can shoot at a high shutter speed

I had made up my mind and said I was not going to look at a lens unless it was a Canon L, even if i had to buy used i was going to do it

So how does the SIGMA AF DC 30/1.4 EX compare to the L line from canon?
how about the
Canon 28mm f/2.8
Sigma 28mm F1.8 EX DG
Canon 50mm 1.4

those are all lens's I am looking at buying, if I was going to get either of the 1.4 or the 28 1.8 lens's that would require me to save up a bit

So how do these lens's par up to the L? Should I just save up a while and get the 50 1.2 used (Dont want to do that, would take for ever to save up for)

Am I missing any lens's ?

With the money I make im starting to look away from the L's

thanks, i know this is very scattered and hard to read :cookie:

Get a Sigma 105mm f/2.8 Macro. Or the 150mm f/2.8 Macro. Those should be 'heavy' enough for you.

I have heard good things about that Sigma.

Also I have a 50mm F/1.4 Canon and I love it. Great lens. But it's not going to add much weight to your camera either.

30mm f/1.4 would be the best only if you get the good one that doesn't have AF problems.
If you plan to make a jump to FF cameras, why not consider Canon 35mm f/1.4 or 50mm f/1.4?

L envy isn't worth it IMO. Get a lens that is good, and if it happens to be L, so be it. I see so many people who discount anything that isn't the god almighty L that it's annoying as hell.

With that said, the Sigma 30 EX I have is great. Go with used at FM, and you shouldn't have to play the find a good copy game. IMO, it's worth it new if you're near a B&H or something where you can play the swapping game till you find a good copy. The 35L is just way too much money, but this is obviously a subjective viewpoint. And Sigma's EX build is great.

As for buying to plan for FF, that depends on your budget for buying a camera body. Prices will continue to drop across the board, so crops will get cheaper too as FF comes down.

28 1.8. they are known for softness in copy variation, but they are pretty decent these days. I got one a month ago, and it seems okay so far. Haven't pixel peeped it to death just yet.
