So I decide to build a PC for the first time in a few years and decide that since quiet seems to be the "in" thing, I'd try building a quiet PC. I picked up the Sonata case from newegg and got a zalman cooler etc etc and when I power it up there is a VERY audible clicking in the power supply fan- it sounds like there is a piece of paper hitting the blades, however apon inspection I think the problem is more mechanical with somthing inside the fan thats making the noise.
So now my PC is driving me crazy and is louder than my old tornado type cases of the past.
AHHHHHH

Not sure what I should do either, I guess I could replace the fan but I've never really messed around inside a power supply before. I assume I need to leave it plugged in when I open it up? heh

I dont think it's worth sending the whole case back to new egg, but I suppose I should send them an email, perhaps I could just swap out the power supplies with them.

The case was really nice to work with though, up until I powered it on.

Give newegg a call and see what they'll do. Dollars to donuts it's a wire touching the fan in the PSU. I had a similar problem when I powered up my Zalman CNPS-7000a and I had my temperature probe too close to the blades. You could open your PSU, but it would likely void your warranty.

I wouldn't suggest opening the PSU if you don't fully understand what the internal parts do. Good way to give yourself a new spiked harido.

I did that today. It was kool. Stupid screwdriver slipped. It is really not fun. Call newegg.

Just called them- they dont cross ship, but gave me an RMA for just the power supply.
Antec on the other hand will cross ship with me, but I think i may just go through newegg and "borrow" a power supply from best buy for when mine is in the mail.

open that sucker up... you know you want to. hehehe.

seriously, though, give some thought to it. just unplug the psu first and wait awhile after unplugging it before messing around in there. and by messing around, I mean "touching nothing and just looking to see if there's a wire hitting the fan." unless there's one of those "void if tampered with" stickers on it.

I've had similar issues before, and it was just a matter of pushing a wire further away from the fan.
