Ugh.. new rig...

Ok so I'm putting everything together, the gold screws that raise the mobo off the case first, then put the mobo in, screw it in with screws that have washers on them. Then put everything else together, it's all going nice and smoothly until I try and turn it on.

It turns on for less then half a sec, like I can see the fans do a small turn, and the light on the Power supply turns on, then nothing. So thinking that it's some issue with the way the mobo is screwed in (which is always the problem it seems like) I take the mobo out and hold it in my hand, then turn the computer on. Low and behold it turns on, I mean fans are going, lights are on, it's all good.

So I go to put the mobo back into the case, and without even screwing it down I try turning it on, nothing, back to the half second thing. So at that point Im pretty pissed because I just wasted 2-3 hours hooking stuff up, and unhooking it. So I take the mobo out again and hold it in my hand, nothing. I try putting it back in the case and screwing it in without washers, nothing.


Any ideas?

In the past when I had this problem is was the power supply. It could not provide enough oomph to get things going. I would try another PSU if possible. I usually don;t use washers on the motherboard screws (I think you talking about the "paper" washers).

Boot w/ just the mobo, cpu, 1 stick of RAM... then add one component at a time. Should help in narrowing down the problem.

Yea but he is booting it up when the mobo is outside the case therefore i am thinking he has all his stuff plugged in. Reason why he is holding a mobo in his hand nad turning it on is , but w/e. I think its gounding, try and see if it is touching any metal.

Your motherboard is shorting out when it's in the case. From constantly powering it on while in the case you may have fried your board.

Looks like you're gonna need a new one. Return it and say it came "defective."

I don't think anything is shorted out, because it's still reacting the same way it did when I first put everything together, there is no difference other then it starting up that one time. The lights on the power supply (500 watt Allied power supply) turn on and all the fans start moving and everything. But it just doesn't fully start going. I'm thinking it has something to do with grounding, but I've tried so many different things I don't know what to try next. I might try hooking it up to a different power supply, or hooking the power supply up to another computer. I'll keep you posted.
