So I listen to music in the evening (7-11) at a pretty reasonable level - loud enough that you could have a conversation in the same room as the speakers without raising your voice (maybe a tiny bit).

I put a rug under my sub to muffle it and turned it down all the way. Still ny neighbors to the side and underneath me complain.

Also I don't like headphones :p

hard to tell who is in the wrong, you do have the sub dampened and lowered :p

and if your volume estimate is truthful, then fsck'em untill they whine to management :p

Iono, I try to turn off my speakers at 10. I know some people go to sleep/wake up early and sometimes I know I have to too.

Are they complainin all the time, or only at like 10-11?

Plus, since you're upstairs, you might not realize how much of the vibrations/sound carry through the walls to your neighbrs (cheap wall construction?).

Is there a way you could disable your sub, maybe? Personally, I'd prefer my neighbor play music/movies/games at a higher level, but take out the bass. I just can't take the tiny vibrations that carry through to my bedroom.

Depending on the quality of the floor the SUB sounds louder upstairs than it might in your area due to the vibrational noises. I've been amazed at how loud my sub is on the upper floor..

If they can hear it, it's too loud.

Hear! Hear!

Seconded!!! :D

I live right below a dood who got his fancy new system, listens to music at a normal volume but his bass is turned all the way up and vibrates the walls and i can barely hear myself think. ive had to goto management a couple times cause he just doesnt get that volume at 20% is okay but when bass at 100% its turning your apt into a wooferbox

Yep, I'm one of those. I own a Dremel rotary saw tool. I have a special bit and piece of wood that I am willing to turn into sawdust if my neighbor insists I listen to her beebop or hiphop or whatever it is. I would make you cry.
