two of them should be fairly straightforward, but the third is in CSC60: Intro to UNIX programming. The final is not comprehensive, it's on only the last four weeks of class. The problem is that the instructor (Who lectures by reading off his website at a rate that allows about 30 seconds per topic) has given us the last four weeks of class to learn C, make, and gcc, basically completely. We're supposed to be able to write makefiles, use pipes and signals, and all the other low level interactions with unix that C can do, after only four weeks of loooking at the langauge, sure there's a programmnig requirement to get into the class: 2 semesters of C++ or java programming. Just because you've spent some times on the basics of C++ or Java, and wrtote a linked lsit or two, does NOT mean you can pick up a lower lever language like C in 1 month. Maybe if we had taken two semesters of C, we could have learned the unix specific stuff in one month.....
there's going to be a lot of people (including me) doing poorly on this test.... I may have to teach myself some C over summer and take it again in the fall.
