I live in the dorms, and I guess there was damage billing and each student owed $2.10 for the quarter. Well I never got anything in my mail for it, and now they are charging me a $10 late fee on $2.10 and placing a hold on my account. Like Im supposed to know through osmosis that I owed money.

Also, they decided to switch the teacher at the last minute for my upcoming digital design class, and from the reviews the new teacher is probably the worst there is.

I never understood why they bill the whole dorm for the damage. The university is not doing us a favor by allotting dorms to us. We apply for them, pay an application fee, and sign a lease, much like an apartment. This is not communal living. If something gets damaged in an apartment, like a lamp post in the parking lot, the apartment just eats the cost. But not in a dorm, they charge everyone, as if the school did us a favor by letting us live there.

They arent that bad. Theres different types. I live in the brick buildings, the only thing bad about them is when your showering, if someone flushes the toilet you better get the f!ck out of the water stream or your gonna get burned. They just built a bunch of on campus apartments, and those are really nice, Im going to try and live there next year.

The reason they bill the whole dorm is because most of the time the dumbfscks who vandalize dorms aren't man enough to fess up. You forget that a university isn't out there to look after you; they're a business, just like any other. The same way a store will raise prices for everyone if people shoplift, or an apartment complex will increase rent if they add a washer/dryer.

Yes, but the prices will be raised the next time you purchase something. If an apartment incurred a loss of $1000 because someone broke the main gate, they won't send a bill to everyone living in there. They will just add that cost on to the rent for the new people who sign a lease. That's like saying a car dealership finds a car stolen. If they followed the university's way of billing, they would find out who bought a car that day from the dealership and just bill them extra for a stolen car.

You're right, but most apartments don't have to deal with consistent cases of drunk people spraypainting the stairwells. They can't afford to eat the cost every time this happens. Living in the dorms nowadays is becoming more and more of a commodity; try waking up five minutes before class if you live off-campus. With traffic, finding parking, and getting just about any repairs done is a nightmare compared to dorm life.
