Trying to RMA an abit ip35-e motherboard that didn't post. at first i tried to rma using the abit e-rma thing on their website, but my serial number was "invalid". so i tried calling them up and it took a while to finally get someone on the line. I finally got an RMA number and shipped it in, and now they are saying they are going to replace my ip35-e with an abit ib9!!!! I dont think there is any way to get another board that is of equal quality as the ip35-e. has anyone else had to deal w/ abit rma service? I am goign to call them on monday but i dont know if they are going to let me pick out another board or not. this sucks. i got the ip35-e and didnt get to test the system till 30 days after i got it from newegg, and by that time the newegg return window ended :(

cliffs

rma'ed abit ip35-e, couldn't return to newegg because didnt get to test it in the 30day window
they are replacing with abit ib9 - a p965 board of questionable quality and probably wont run 45nm cpus

anyone have experiences like this before w/ abit?
what can i do?

There is no way they should be sending you a different generation motherboard in replacement imo. At least they could send you a comparable 35 board. I would Email back to them and say that the ib9 is not comparable to the one you sent in, but is in fact worth less.

Tell them if they do not have any model that is equivelent to yours then you would gladly accept a motherboard based on the X38 chipset.

If they dont listen, open up a BBB complaint. Worked for me so far with my RMA with ECS. They were ignoring me and then once I opened up the BBB dispute, 4 hours later I have an RMA number without them even asking what motherboard I am sending back.

What CPU do you have? If you have one that requires FSB333, then you can tell them that you require a P35. Then again, they shouldn't be giving you something lesser either.

i have an e8400 but it shouldnt matter what cpu i have. I originally bought the ip35-e for a build i was making for my sister, but the mb was giving me so many problems and finally died so i ended up just giving her my gigabyte ep35-ds3r and got myself an ip35-pro which rocks btw. they are giving me an older gen mobo which has many incompatibilities with cpus that are out this gen. ugh! i will call them on monday, but if they aren't helpful i guess i will have no choice but to go the bbb route. can someone show me where to start with that route?

isn't newegg's replacement window a year though. i remember that the refund window was 30 days but you should still be able to get a replacement through newegg

This happened a while back. I remember bemoaning this about 4 years ago. Indeed, some items have zero returns to Newegg (monitors and printers?). The items that are returnable to Newegg are items that you would otherwise not get any warranty on, because some manufacturers will not RMA to end-users. In this regard Newegg is still, but barely, better than other retailers.

Are you calling the RMA number? I got the same email at first (RMAed an IP35-e). Once I talked to them they offered me an IP35-Pro instead.

Abit's quality kinda went down the drain since universal took over. Good luck on the RMA process...

I disagree, for the last year or so before USI came along you could see that things were going downhill (very, very late to market with product etc.).
Changes don't happen overnight but since Universal took over & got a chance to make changes things have improved.

update: i just got a motherboard in the mail today, it is indeed an IP35-E. i dont know why they got my panties in a bunch with that email

Don't have any means to test the motherboard right now... i am thinking of just selling it as is. i dont want to disassemble my computer to test this thing
