Ugh, hellish day at work tomorrow...

I got a call from my boss today, and she asked me if I wanted to work a night shift. I said sure, because I need the money, but it's gonna make tomorrow a crappy work day...a morning AND a night shift.

I'm working 5:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m., and then I have to be back at 5:00 p.m. to work until 1:00 a.m. Saturday morning.

Ugh. I'm gonna be napping like crazy tomorrow.

if you don't mind me asking, where do you work?
U of M Department of Public Safety - I will be unlocking campus buildings during my morning shift, and locking them up again tomorrow night.

Could be worse. I had a perfect network of no SoBig and Mblast, and welicha until a few hours ago. User brings laptop in, worm spreads like wildfire, all desktops trigger antivirus. Looks like a 2 day cleanup and education of end users.

Yeah, move in is quite a chore - last year they had me doing traffic control (traffic control!?! I'm not even a police officer!), maintaining a street as a one-way that's usually a two-way in order to expedite move-in traffic. I seriously came close to tears, people were using the worst curses I've ever heard at me, and I look younger than I am, so basically they were just cussing out a kid!

Other than that, I usually get to hear my share of kids passed out in the bathrooms getting MIPs over the police radio. They keep us pretty far removed from any of the criminal activity on campus, so as a student employee, I only get to hear about it.

Unfortunately though, due to all the tuition increases/budget cuts, the DPS student employee program is being eliminated at the end of the summer, so we've all only got a couple more weeks. It's been an awesome job, but unfortunately I'll have to say goodbye to it.

sounds like a chill schedule. i'd rather have taht than just one normal shift
The worst part is the 10 p.m. - 1 a.m. portion - it's really slow, and there aren't a lot of lockups to do, so it's pretty hard to resist the urge to just doze off.
