Ugh, Dell delayed the shipment of my 290...

Last weekend I managed to score a VisionTek R9 290 for $460 after tax from Dell. They had it listed for $479, and then I had a coupon code for 10% off or something, free shipping too. Reference cooler, which I know is not ideal. They have since upped the price to $579.

Got an e-mail today saying my shipment has been delayed until the 28th, but I have a feeling they will just keep delaying it. I know VisionTek has supposedly had some trouble stocking components for these cards...

I had wanted to get an R9 290 since it first came out, at $400 MSRP it seemed like a great deal for the performance. Then I decided to wait for aftermarket coolers because of the lackluster reference design. But then the mining craze came into full swing, and prices skyrocketed.

My plan was to test both my 770 and the 290 in BF4 on Windows 7, then upgrade to Windows 8.1 and re-test, then test out Mantle. Then sell whichever card I didn't want, or maybe both and upgrade to a 780. I know I can make money off the 290, but that is beside the point. I am a little concerned, if Dell keeps delaying, the price of the 290 will go back to normal and I'll regret buying a reference-cooled card if aftermarket are the same price.

I'm thinking if they delay it another week or two, I'll cancel the order. It is a decent deal, but not worth the hassle.

Its not just only you.
I got in the same deal & got the same email.

Apparantely there is no easy way to Cancel the order.

I think you need to talk with CS rep to cancel the order because there is no option in UCP.

Apparantely they raised the price and the ETA on the new ones is 4/8/14.

Dont know when we'll get ours.

Also what sucks is that they already charged my CC.
Not good Dell, not Good.

With the price of 280X's currently being roughly same as you payed for the 290... I would not worry about the possibility of losing the opportunity to make a profit on the 290 anytime soon. It will take a couple of months for the prices of 290s to go anywhere near MSRP levels.

This happened to me when the Radeon 8500 launched. Bought one through Dell and it got delayed. I eventually got the card but it took almost 3 months.

I only have a pending charge on my CC, it hasn't fully gone through yet.

Sucks to hear it might take months, I'll definitely cancel before then. I really want to see if I get any improvements in BF4 going to Windows 8.1, don't want to wait weeks before doing it.

Cancelling with Dell is such a pain. I should have know better than to order from them, they haven't improved their web site or customer service at all in the last 8 years. I had to ring them up, wait an hour or so on hold, then get connected to someone in India who transfers me over to the correct department. So another 30 minute wait... and now I get disconnected. Called them up a second time and had to repeat the entire process, luckily this time I was forwarded to the proper person. Took me almost 2 hours in total to get this thing canceled.

I'd hang on to it a bit longer until you find a different card you want, then cancel it. I ordered an Asus DCUII 290 about a month ago for $440 on Amazon and I just got it two days ago.

I went through this with them a few years ago when they had a smoking deal on a 8800gt and then it kept on getting delayed until I canceled. I spotted the 290 for $473.98 on dell a few days ago and balked because I really want a cryovenom version of it with a factory installed water block. If I'd placed an order I would be in your shoes. Right afterwards they raised the price over a hundred bucks.

I have a similar story to this with Dell back at the 8800 GT release. I think it was an MSi 8800 GT deal
