Ugh! Bought a Dell laptop just last year

My fiancee bought a new dell laptop last year (Inspiron E1505). Just a week ago, the screen stop working. You could turn the computer on, but nothing but a black screen would be on the monitor(screen).

She took it to a computer repair shop and they replaced a part and said it may work. If not, we'd probably have to order a new screen. How much does this typically cost? Im guessing a few hundred dollars. It might just be practical to buy a new laptop.

Any other suggestions on how to fix this?

Probably just needs a new backlight tube and inverter. Typically about $125.

Is it still under warranty? Or did you pay extended warranty if so it should take care of problems.

In my opinion, Dell's ONLY redeeming quality is their warranty service.
Check to see if it's under warranty FIRST.
If it's out of warranty, you MAY be able to fix it yourself. as Corky said, probably a backlight tube or inverter.
Attach an external monitor to your VGA out and see if it works. If it does, unplug the monitor, reboot the system, and see if you can see any display at all coming from the LCD, look at the reflection in a flashlight or something.

On a side note, I THINK the E1505's use the same LCD as a Inspiron 6000..
