So i have 2 different samsung 52" lcd model that died after 3 years now.. kinda sucks. I have fios install today and the TV wouldn't turn on..

So it looks like costco has a better warranty deal, I can tack on square trade on top of the 2 year warranty. Anyone used the warranty before on repairs ?

Basically 1 lcd had vertical lines so half the panel is dead, popular issues among almost all manufacture, 2nd lcd just wont turn on..

Bad caps?

I would take them apart and check all the capacitors. Especially the caps in the power supply section of the one that isn't turning on at all.

Samsung is notorious for having great designs but sourcing horribad parts like no name one hung lo brand caps.

What disappoint said. If you google your model number and "capacitors" you'll probably find a diagram of caps to check. Pretty common Samsung LCD problem.

I had a samsung with bad caps on the power supply board, you couldn't tell by looking at them, no leaks or bulging anyway.

They probably just dried out in your case. Hmm the fake cap makers are changing their recipe.

I've had 2 sets of caps (different ones) fail in my 5 year old Magnavox. Replaced both sets and it's still running fine.

1st LCD sounds like a chip/board problem. 2nd one sounds like bad power supply (possibly caps).

Many Target stores around the country had a Westingtonhouse 50" on clearance for $299 and the 3 year warranty was $29 (IIRC on the warranty).

Good luck OP.

This was several months after i sent it in for repair under warranty. I bought caps and replaced them myself and have no problems with it in over a year.

My "47 Phillips is still going strong, IIRC there is a place that sells "cap kits" for specific brands/models, comes with quality replacement caps for all the ones in your set, around $20, might be worth a shot for that price..

had a great samsung for one year then a red line appear straight down the middle. Luckily I had a best buy warranty (tv was cheaper at bb than amazon even after tax).

yeah i had that on the first 52", had about 5 inch of vertical lines on the right side of the panel, wasn't the ribbon or t-cons that was common and cheap to replace, the guy that came out and looked at it wanted to replace the whole lcd panel... it was cheaper to buy a new tv at that point

samsung had a class action suit against them for the caps they used in a bunch of their displays back in like 08. the suit expired last year, so nothing is covered anymore but the caps are still failing in those units that didnt get fixed yet (a ton of them!)

op, if you dont want that dead samsung, maybe i will buy it from you?

Shit... I have two Samsungs in the house. I run my 40" like 4-10 hours a day. It's about 3 years old now.

On the bright side, I can get an LED TV for half the cost -- paid $900 +tax (FML) back then.

I'd still probably buy Samsung though...

What's amazing is my Samsung LED from the around the same year, 2008/2009, has not failed yet. This is the one I use about 4-5 hours a day M-F daily, all the other tv doesn't get the same usage
