My university network has implmented the Cisco Clean Access Agent lately and it checks to make sure computers have up to date antiviruses, windows updates, etc.
Well it didnt recognize my Kaspersky, and our University offers McAfee for free so I got it simply so I could get online in the mean time while they got Kaspersky to be accepted.
Well now they've done that and I want to uninstall McAfee. First of all, wow, no "Uninstall McAfee" shortcut in the Program group. That's a sign of a fine program right there. Way to go McAfee.
So I uninstall it with Add/Remove, reboot for peace of mind even though it didnt ask me to. Check Program folder, and surprise surprise, Network Associates is still there. Not empty either, like many programs that leave their empty folder behind. No sire, this thing is filled with .dll's and .exe's. Surely they aren't still in use though, right?
Wrong! I've got FrameworkService.exe, naPrdMgr.exe, and whatever else might belong to McAfee running in my Task Manager! Amazing, none of these things are in the msconfig's startup list. All traces of McAfee are gone from there. Apparently these are Services.
Help me rid my computer of possibly the worst antivirus ever to be made. =(
