From the moment I connected to the net (which took nearly a minute) until the moment this window finally opened... 7 minutes 20 seconds. You suck, Verizon.

All brand new phone lines in the house. Brand new modem. (had to, after 4 years of cable, I never bothered installing a telephony modem. Yet, I cannot connect (so far) at a speed faster than 32000 bps.

This sucks.

my e-penis is | -------------------------------------- THIS ------------------------------------------- | much bigger than yours.

i have a cable connection hooked to a 366celly with 64mb ram running a live knoppix cd. might as well be 56k. takes 10mins for the thing to boot to the desktop.

That doesnt make any sense. Internet has nothing to do with boot time. I have an old laptop with similiar specs running windows 2000 and running just internet is fine on it. Load times are much different that 56k. A little less than my desktop, but still really good.

i know that. but running an os from cd with just 64mb ram creates lag equivalent to a crap connection when browsing. just opening this reply box took about 10 secs.

i shouldve hit enter after the second sentence to make it more coherent, like i did above.

I gave up last night. That's it. I'm not going to bother connecting to the internet from home, period.
Unless...
I seemed to be getting dl speeds wayyyyy below what I should have had for even a 32000 connection.
Since I optimized all my settings for cable, I wonder if I'm going to have to do some re-tweaking.

You're the one that wanted to live in the country. Away from people, and everything useful.

But, verizon's online site said DSL was available... until we called to have it connected. Then, it was "available probably by June"

still... I'm only 5 minutes from school; have key; can go in anytime to work online.
It's just that online usage is limited; just think of the sites I can't go to from work!

Other than broadband, there's nothing else useful that I'm away from.
We still have that U.S. mail thing... in fact, the p.o. is about 200 yards from my house.
And, AFAIK, UPS still comes out here.
Even in the city I moved from, I had the choice of Staples. It's still a choice - only 25 minutes away. Otherwise, the only real city in the area is Buffalo... about 1 1/4 hours away.
