Ugg... where do I even start on this diff. equations math problem?

Yeah, fvck this. I'm switching my major to business but I can't drop any of my engineering and calculus classes because it's past the drop date. I tried petitioning, but since I don't have any "extenuating" circumstances, they denied my petition. Now I've got to fight just to keep all my classes above a D because I really really HATE engineering.

Ironically, even though I'm a Business major, I must do ok in my Engineering classes or else my GPA is going to plummet.

I remember that class!!! Very tough.... ended up taking the 2nd part of it and graduated with a bs in mathematics... how did I do it?... I dont know.....

Dude...

start by making a simple drawing with a block of mass, a spring and a damper (all the liquids damping effect is lumped to the damper)

then write a set of equations

then perhaps you can use the laplace transform to solve it...

good luck

book examples help

There are no book examples. None. Seriously. Nor any class examples that relate to springs that are fluid damped.

Is it asking you to write a 2nd order differential equation which describes the motion of the system or to solve that 2nd order differential equation? Simple harmonnic motion fall basically into this.

Force on the object is = m*a (gravity) + friction*(-velocity) + spring constant * position

a = 2nd derivative of position
velocity = 1st derivative of position.

I have the feeling I don't either. But we're working primarily on LaPlace transforms and I'm assuming we have to use them.

don't ask me, i couldn't pass HS algebra, lol
i was so bad at i just gave up and slept through class. come test days the teacher would pass out the tests and he'd ask me if i was going to take it. i said no and read a book or slept.
