The network has been setup as such for nearly 10 months now. Just recently, yesterday, the switch and router ceased to speak with each other. As simple as that. When the switch is physically connected to the router (Half duplex; only. This is not a managable switch, nor is the hub in the router), the collision light on the router will go for a few seconds, stop, and then the activity lights on both the switch and router will blink (tested upto 4 hours).
Plugging a machine with a 10Mbit FDX or HDX connection will allow the machine to establish a solid connection with the router directly.
I have power cycled both the router and switch, removed all physical connections from the switch and router, left each piece of hardware idle long enough to clear out its MAC address table, and alternated between cables.
I now have three options:
I can use a 10Mbit hub inbetween the router and switch
Or,
I have already called up Umax tech support, explained the issue, and within 30 seconds I was suggested RMA.. either it can be a known issue, or he just wasn't thinking..
Or,
