When was the 1st UFO sighting reported?

was it way back in the middle ages or was it more recent, like with the advent of flight technology? just wondering if there's some correlation between the two.

There are indications that UFOs were seen by the first humans.

EDIT: Of course, anything in the sky was a UFO to them.

If I remember correctly the idea of UFOs has been around for a long, long time. However, the number of reported UFOs skyrocketed around the time manned flights became common.

UFO stands for Unidentified Flying Object, That said, a shooting star seen in the middle ages could be considered a UFO.

Edit: As said previously stated, anything in the sky could be considered UFO back then.

I agree, but it's probably one of those things where we are looking at it though a cultural lens. I'd bet that if you took it to someone completely unacquainted with modern western society, they'd see something completely different in it.

One could argue that coorsponsded to the same time when the ability to quickly communicate long distances became common as well. Meaning, it's hard to measure the number of 'prior' reports since they weren't likely to leave their local community.
