It`s turned based and plays like the original X-COM series.

About UFO--Alien Invasion .

Download links .

Gameplay:
The game is turn-based. Well, this might sound somewhat old school now, but trust us: turn-based games are fun!
Each member of your squad has a limited number so called "time units" each round, which are consumed when you order the unit to walk, to fire a weapon or to perform any of the other miscellaneous actions. When all your forces are out of time units, the alien's turn starts. In addition to eliminating as many enemies as possible, your mission is to minimize civilian casualties as well as to acquire parts of the advanced alien technology.
Once you've acquired sufficient samples of the unknown technology, your research labs will be able to reproduce the alien weapons and devices in order to use them against their original creators.

I guess I`m the only X-COM or turn based fan around here ;),anyway the game is pretty good.

I like the fact you can bump the resolution all the way up to 1600x1200 and music is pretty good IMHO,you can buy and sell weapons as well, too bad you can`t do research in the demo version ,I hear it`s going to be free for the full version which is not bad for a game based on the Quake 2 engine.

Ufo - Alien Invasion is totally free. We do computer games for fun and not to earn money. You can download it from our site as soon it is finished.

Well that confirms it`s going to be free.

If it has research, economics, base bulding, et al, I will certainly try it. I tried UFO:Aftermath, but found it lacking in those respects.

Yep there`ll be research and in the UFO-Alien Invasion forum he says
There will be base management for sure. But I cannot tell you how exactly it will look like at the moment. A few things will be different from X-COM.
so that`s going to turn out good I hope.

x-com ufo defense was one of the best games ever made

The aliens in the demo of UFO-Alien Invasion reminds me of those mutons in X-com UFO defense, the controls take awhile to get use too and I think they could improve the camera zooming,I wish you could zoom out a little more but for a game that`s supposed to free it`s really hard to complain.

You can see the similarities between this and X-com UFO defense which can`t be a bad thing at all.

For turn-based fans:

- be sure to try Jagged Alliance 2 if you never have, it has tactical combat goodness, skills that improve, and resource management (though different from x-com). There are several user mods out as well.

- Silent Storm has gotten pretty good reviews and is on sale for $30 at GoGamer.com

Sounds good, Jagged Alliance kick ass as DaveSimmons said, and the XCom games were absolutely awesome(yes Im one of the apparently few people who like TFTD as well as UFO:EU).

Got to say I'm really impressed. Just need to see if there are any helpful keyboard commands.

JA kicked my ass, as well as TFTD. It's not that I didn't like them, but they just became too damn hard for my soldiers. I also liked the third XCOM, Apocalypse, it had a nice mix of turn-based real-time (your choice), vehicle combat, economics, and rival organizations (I -loved- raiding some of them for cash). I liked it so much I bought two copies - and now I have no computer to play it on =(.

And yes, this game looks promising. If their engine is flexible enough to incoroporate some improvements, this could end up being a worthy successor. Graphics are nice, controls could use some refining, and there needs to be more depth, but it's a good turn based squad action game right now.

I agree about the controls could do with some refining ,as well as camera angles,I think depth wise it should be ok since it has the virtually all the basics of the original X-Com game.

I hope you can save between turns in the final release version, having played all the X-Com games it was a life saver in some of serious alien battles, especially those very long turn based battles that never seemed to end when you`re trying to find that last hidden alien..

I`ve just finished playing the demo until the end,the last mission was a tough one, had 10 aliens but finally killed them all.

I hope the full version is out soon,it`s very playable and gameplay is addictive.
