Well, considering that the fight in question is a VT bout, UFC vs Pride seems a bit irrelevant. But anyway... I'll bite. 😉

They both have their strong and weak points. I can see why you might prefer one over the other, but how can you say one "sucks"??? Have you seen this weekend's UFC43? It was an awesome show!

There are many things I like about Pride, but one of the things I really don't enjoy is that many of the matchups are just plain silly. I mean, how many times has a Japanese Pro Wrestler stepped into the ring? I'm sorry, but way more times than not, they simply do not belong. I understand that it's a Japanese show, and they want to see their heros... But I don't find it entertaining at all.

I can't really say which one I like better... It completely depends on the particular card.

i agree with the dood that says pride is better. although i'm saying this w/o having watched the recent UFC, i was only interested in Vitale cuz he from Hawaii. there are great japanese pro wrestlers in Pride (kazushi sakuraba and daijiro matsui being among the top), they are pretty enternaining most of the time.

I was responding to the thread title.

Because compare to Pride, it does suck. Fighters aren't up to the same caliber as Pride, and the octagon makes fighting less tactical.

That's because a lot of the Pro Wrestlers actually do have some skills. Sakuraba was a Pro Wrestler before he went to Pride.

Pride just has better fighters and better rules. And with more K1 fighters like CroCop coming over to Pride, things are just damn more exciting.

Your example of Sakuraba is a good one... However, it is also the exception (not the norm). How about Takayama, Yamamoto, Tamura, Iwasaki, Imamura, etc? While I have the utmost respect for anyone who could climb in the ring, those guys just don't belong with Silva, Sapp, Frye, Minotoro, etc...

Yes, I agree that while the Octagon was fun to watch at first, it's become nothing more than a tool to trap your opponent instead of using straight technique.

Fighters quality? That's a tough call. The cream of the crop in either organization is still the cream of the crop. I would consider this even, between the two.

(I wonder if there could ever be a PRIDE vs UFC show. That would be freakin' awesome.)

But if you haven't seen UFC43: Meltdown simply because you think "the UFC sucks", then you are denying yourself some awesome matches.

Naw, i don't go out of my way to watch UFC. I just don't like the octagon. I'm not a big spectator of any sport to be honest, but what i've seen of Pride, i like it much more than UFC. And as for the wrestlers, Pride takes anybody as long as they qualify. Whether it's from Pro Wrestling, UFC, K1, Shootfighting, etc. There are just way too many armchair fighters out there, who think UFC is the only and best MMA fights... most aren't even aware of Pride. In previous threads, you'll have people claiming how great groundfighting is, look at UFC, it's all dominated by groundfighters, but they've never even heard of Pride.

You also have to remember that there are lots of crossovering in Japan. K1 fighters coming to Pride... Pride fighters going to K1... ProWrestlers going to Pride, and Pride fighters going to ProWrestling. That's just the nature over there.
