jesus.. gsp quit years ago and walked away from his welterweight (170lb) belt to go into the movie/tv business.
he was in capt America: Winter soldier, and was in an (awful, awkward) commercial.

guess that didn't work out.
he comes back and instantly gets a shot at the middleweight (185lb) belt?
1) Ring rust anyone?
2) middle weight??? instantly getting a shot at his old welterweight belt, I can understand.
but middle weight?

Dana desperate to get viewers and $$$ since he has no big draw names left since Jones got suspended AGAIN.
hm.. wonder if dana was the one who initiated the idea to gsp to come out of retirement?

very curious to see how much gsp is being paid for this!

I'm a long time GSP fan, but I find it interesting that when the biggest fight on the planet was literally on its knees begging GSP he walked away from the sport (Silva v. GSP) and now he is back and wants the MW strap that is held by a career mediocre fighter while the division is a the weakest it has probably ever been. I would have been more interested to see GSP come back to 170 and lay the smack down on some of these new kids and potentially setup a clash with Conor McGregor. Talk about a $$$ fight...

There was an article, I'll see if I can find it, about the lack of star power in the UFC now. Conor is doing Conor stuff and doesn't ever need $$$ again, Jones is gone, GSP was gone, there is no BJ Penn, Silva is gone, there is no one worth a fuck at HW, and none of the people coming up really have the media skills to go along with their talent to become a true star. The UFC is going downhill fast, IMO.

I can't look at him without thinking of the Hendricks fight or Vaselinegate.

GSP is trying to make one last paycheck on Dana's attempts to resuscitate the UFC. And I have no interest in it.

Last I heard it was north of $30M, and that wasn't including the PPV revenue. LMGTFY.....

loading...

$700M in PPV, split 70/30 for Mayweather, plus endorsements. There is a confidentiality agreement in place but the estimates are close to $70M for Conor. Also worth noting his biggest payday in the UFC was $3M for his rematch with Diaz.

ahh.. starts at 10pm EST.
thought it normally started at 9pm.

interesting prelim..
illegal head strike after ref said Time but didn't get in-between them before the kick was thrown.
opponent cant continue.
the striker said he didn't hear the Ref.
how would you have ruled?

striker wins?
opponent wins by DQ due to illegal strike?
no contest?

I'm personally excited to see Bisping v GSP. I'd say Bisping while not great is not a mediocre fighter. He beat Rockhold whatever the circumstances are. It's Rockholds fault for going into a cage fight with a lackadaisical attitude. And at the end GSP was mentally fading more so than physically. I think he comes back strong and wins tonight.

I think the fight was a money grab for bisping. He looked slow, worn out and wanted to leave the game. Any of the ufc top 5 plus moose would have murked him.

GSP was not that impressive, doubtful if he would defend the belt against whitaker or rockhold. Wme shot themselves on the foot again with this freebie to GSP.
