According to Dana White, Weidman-Silva II 12/28

A rematch between newly crowned UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman and Anderson Silva will take place Dec. 28, UFC president Dana White told ESPN Saturday.

The fight will headline UFC 168, happening at MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas.

Weidman (10-0) delivered a shocking upset on July 6, knocking out Silva (33-4) in the second round of their title fight in Las Vegas. The loss broke a UFC-record 16-fight win streak for Silva and was his first in the promotion.

"I back," Silva said. "Trust me. I back."

A previously announced female bantamweight title fight between Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate is also on the card.

5 1/2 months before I get to see Ronda wrap those sexy legs around Miesha and tug on her arm.

If Silva wants to beat him, he'll beat him.
Probably, however I'm sure he wanted to beat him the first time. He just wanted to clown around more before he did it and got knocked the fuck out. I really think Silva is the best pound for pound fighter out there, but his ego got the best of him and I'm glad he lost the belt for it.

I have no doubt he won't pull that shit again and will very likely take the belt back. That not to discredit Weidman, I think he's really good, just not as good as Silva.

Meh... I'm sure you didn't really believe him. You always have to take what a fighter says, right after a fight, with a grain of salt. Especially after a loss, let alone a KO.

I think Silva will still lose. People seem to forget he was losing the fight right up to the knockout. Everyone confuses Silva's antics as winning but that is not the case.
Weidman proved he could take Silva down and has better ground and pound than Sonnen.
Weidman proved he wouldn't let Silva antics pull him into Silva type of fight.
To win again, Weidamn will only need to do what he has already done. Silva on the other hand will need to change how he fights.

I agree Weidman was winning the fight. I won't agree that it's a for sure thing he'll win again. On his feet he's at a severe disadvantage and even though he was successful earlier in the fight with the take down fact is that he was standing much too long with Silva after the initial takedown. Was it because of Silva's defense or was it Weidman getting cocky with his stand up? Either way it will be a totally different fight with Silva throwing strikes with bad intentions instead of playing the clown.

I took it to mean he would not press for a rematch. I think in his interview right after the fight, he said had had several more fights on his contract and would fight whoever Dana told him to, but he would not specifically push for a rematch. At least that's how I took it to mean.

i hope if he regains the title, that he retires when the contract is up, as champ.

Anderson just signed a 10-fight contract a few weeks ago.

Plus Anderson is 38 years old now. IMO the longer the fight goes, the better it is for Chris. And he has a decided advantage in wrestling and BJJ. Because of that Anderson has to be careful with his striking, or he gets taken down. Chris has heavy hands, and as you pointed out, he will drive your head through the mat with GnP.

Anderson has to catch him clean, and get the finish or he will fade as the fight goes on.

yeah i think silva was losing too. then he changed tactics to frustrate Weidman and it didn't work.

silva has defended his title a bazillion times.
how much bigger $ can it be to throw a fight for a rematch?!

meh.. he should have stuck w/his orig plan of keep fighting but not for the title.
then after being 10-0 after his defeat, just retire like a champ

The biggest payday for Silva (by far) would've been a superfight... And his loss ruined that.

Dana White was correct... "If you think this fight was fixed, you're fucking stupid."
