Doh! What a move by Silva. I don't really like him but no doubt he is absolutely amazing MMA fighter. I don't know if Okami will end up getting Anderson or if they will go with GSP fight if he wins against Shields. Maybe Okami will fight then GSP after that since he'll want time to bulk up.

LOL @ Joe Rogan about Gabe Rudiger "When you get hurt, you go to what you're familiar with. And with him, it's not good."

I wonder if someone like Sonnen is really the only way to beat Anderson. Okami was definitely outgrappled and wasn't able to even outstrike Chael, so I have no idea how he is gonna beat Silva. People on forums love to say Sonnen has no sub defense but the guy's gameplan is always just pounding people out from the guard. It's tough to do anything else against him so it's no surprise that most of his losses are from subs. That said, GSP is definitely better with subs so if he could use a Sonnen-like gameplan, he might beat Silva. I think Silva's rub injury was a factor, but no doubt someone like GSP or Sonnen could take Silva down always.

It's not like that's the first time Anderson has practiced or seen that type of kick.

Well, Dana said at the press conference they are definitely looking to go GSP-Silva if GSP wins against Shields. So Okami is still left hanging. I don't think he has that good of a chance against Silva anyway, but hey Shields could win and Okami could still fight Silva.

My thoughts on the night:

I really don't know what the alternative is, but I'm growing increasingly skeptical of the UFC hype machine. I swear, they could make ME sound like I actually have a chance to take out Anderson Silva with the right pre-game hype. I mean Belfort looked ok. And it wasn't a terrible fight. But showing clips of Belfort literally like 8 years ago and at a weight class that is considerably bigger - I'd guess around 25 to 35 pounds (perhaps he was using more creatine back then?) doesn't mean he is going to do that to *anyone* now - much less Anderson Silva. But you start believe it after watching. At least I do. So it works. (But I'm fully aware of what's going on if that makes sense). Bader is a strong dude. For Jones to what he did to both Hamil and now Bader shows some deceptively good grappling/wrestling skills on the part of Jones. We know he can submit. We know he is a great striker. I wasn't on board really but I'm beginning to think he may be the next big thing. I'd give him a shot against the significantly more experienced Shogun. Maybe I'm a Ceronne rump swab but I swear the 2nd prelim fight was arguably the best one of the night.

I've watched most of Jones' fights. He's the real deal.

I don't agree that his wrestling is deceptively good - it is great. He didn't show any of it tonight, but he's got great Greco and Judo technique. He's a JUCO wrestling champion and had a chance to wrestle at Iowa (the wholly grail of college wrestling programs) but went a different direction. I think he beats Shogun.

Seriously man? Just yesterday I told you Belfort wasn't a legit threat to Silva and you asked if I was kidding. Now Silva is the Da Vinci of striking?

He said on MMA Live last night, Seagal helped him with it. And that he then worked on it alot during training camp. So, he directly credited Seagal. The attempts to discredit or minimize his influence are lulz worthy though.

Looks like I sucked the big fat one picking Belfort and Franklin well at least I got JJ right. Belfort was a tool letting Silva pick his shots and find range, if sonnen, yes sonnen, non striker sonnen taught us one thing you got to bring it to Silva. Meh poor game plan standing there 3 minutes circling and deservedly fail. About as bad as jumping in the guard of Werdum.
