How stupid are these rent-a-cops? There were like 5 of them there and it took them minutes to drag that idiot out the door. And they had to taser him too. Morons could have dragged him outside the lecture hall then handcuffed and arrested him. These rent-a-cops are complete idiots.

Not having seen the video yet, I have to ask, was the student presenting a danger to himself or another that justifies getting tasered in order to avert tragedy. if the answer is no, then he should not have been tasered. Cops are using it to much if you ask me. They put people's life in danger every time they do so. He should sue, cops should never use any potentially lethal weapon except to avert imminent harm, and then only if other measure would be ineffective.

Now having seen the video, he definitely should sue. They had him under control, when they pushed him down then tasered him, a cowardly act.

He wasn't cuffed yet, and was still resisting. He was warned that he'd be tased if he refused to comply. I don't see a problem here. You'd prefer the 'brute force' method of restraining/cuffing, which may lead to injury?

The guy is belligerent and was very clearly in a position where he could've hurt someone. He was not restrained, under control, or handcuffed. When people are under control, they don't manage to go from laying on their stomach to sitting up that quickly.

They had two options:
1) Use a taser. Hope he doesn't have a condition where it could prove lethal.
2) Use brute force. Hope he doesn't start swinging, hope they don't break his wrist, dislocate his shoulder, or cause any other physical damage that has a pretty good chance of occurring.

Taser has yet to be successfully sued in court over it's use. In almost every taser related death, there has been a multitude of other contributing factors which caused the death. The taser was merely the force being applied at the time...in fact, I believe OC spray has been a contributing cause in MORE deaths than the taser itself. They currently are conducting studies on 30 second continual uses and so far, not one person has been affected in any sort of permanent way.

He was not cuffed when he was tasered. You can clearly see his hand up on the armrest of a chair after he pulled it away from an officer trying to cuff him.

In this case it looks like their actions were justified. The kid doesn't seem very balanced and he was resisting. If he had done as they asked from the beginning he probably just would have been escorted out. It actually seems like he wanted to get himself on national TV by the way he was acting.

One of the cops should've just taken the podium/mic and done a play by play, then we wouldn't have 5 pages discussing why they did what they did :p

It would be interesting for the people replying saying whether he deserved it or not to say if they feel they are liberal or conservative.

I have a sneaking suspicion that if this were a republican speaking, people would be saying that he was being oppressed for a legitimate protest or something.

Nonetheless, I don't know the premise of the speech or what happened beforehand, but it seemed very rude and they were right to remove him. I don't agree with the tasering, but the point of tasering someone is to subdue them to a controllable state.

I don't see at all why this would be a lib/conservative issue. The questions he was asking Kerry were not relevant to either party in particular. "Is it true you and bush were frat brothers at yale?" <<<<< irrelevant

You should retitle this topic to "stupid college kid gets tasered for disrupting a public appearance and resisting arrest"

I guess that putting John Kerry's name in there probably makes it sound more newsworthy

and would he got tazered if he just did what was asked?

So, if the police say "Do this or ill do that." That automatically gives them the right to do whatever they want when you don't comply? Tasering is simply not an option when you have already restrained someone. Police in the past have gotten in trouble for smacking someone in the head after an arrest, why is this any different? The guy was an Idiot so the police can be idiots too? Sorry, that just doesn't fly with me.

Police are the enforcers of the law, not the executioners of judgment. If the big black police officer had punched the kid in the head, everyone here would be screaming police brutality, and yet they just caused the kid more pain then a punch to the head would ever cause and everyone is fine with that because he deserved it, and it looks like nothing wrong could happen.

you might have an argument if he was handcuffed. HE WAS NOT. he was on his back fighting them.

Cogman ownes X5

besides even if you are handcuffed it does not mean you get a free pass to do what ever you want. if you head butt a cop while handcuffed you can expect a face full of pepper foam.

you are a cop? have you ever been on? they arent bouncers at a bar who can get away with doing such things. If the cops did that they would be sued

Just saw the video, anything less than some cop getting canned will be an injustice.

I was there.

He should of cooperated. It wouldn't gotten so physical if he didn't resisted so much physically himself.

Why? The officers were completely justified in doing what they did. They gave him proper warning that if he kept resisting he'd be tased. He kept resisting. He got tased. If he wasnt resisting, or was already restrained you'd have a case and I'd agree with you.

Like FallenHero said, until you actually wrestle with someone who doesn't want to be arrested, you cannot comprehend why an officer is justified in doing what they do.

are you nuts?

the kid was fighting. the cops gave him plenty of warning. he was gripping onto chairs and screaming and fighting.

they warned him again. he continued to resist. they tazed him and put handcuffs on him.

he had hold of chiars and such. it was either hard physical stuff that could have hurt him or an officer or taz him.

tazing was fine.

I think we should be more concerned by the fact that six cops can't take this guy down, cuff him, and take out of there without having to use a taser on him. 6 human beings against 1, you do the math, they shouldn't have had to use a taser. Oh wait I forgot, they are bitch cops.
