He was basically The Man.

For those who dont know, Nintendo actually started off as a playing card company, then moved in to trading cards, then designed video games to promote their trading cards. Its a weird long wild ride. Kinda like how Amazon started with used books and eventually became a serious digital content provider.

Sad news though, most people (even old school console gamers) likely wouldn't recognize his name, at least outside of Japan. He was definitely an influential person in the industry, though. RIP dude, thanks for helping to revolutionize home video games.

Definitely played a lot of Donkey Kong and its sequel.

Both those games, in my kid mind...well, I didn't get past the second level for the longest time. What's simple for adults is not necessarily so for kids. Donkey Kong was much harder given that it was the older and thus "clunky" game.

Fire Emblem was also some good tactical game.
