hi,

i have an old mobo with a p1 133 Mhz chip on it, it supports PIO4 and harddrives > 4GB but i dont know though if it works with new UDMA66 hd's.
i dont need the extra speed udma66 can give, as longs as it works everything is fine.
someone has any experience with that ?

thx in advance!

As I understands it, HDD can run at old mode such as PIO1/2/3/4 but all depends on the manufacture to go backward compatibility.

the ata66 HD's are backwards compatible with the regular ata33 mobo's. YOu may have to enable or disable ata66 using some HD software, depending on which brand you buy.

As far as HD size limitation goes, most retail HD's come with bios overlay software that allows the large HD size to be used fully even if the mobo itself doesn't support the large size HD.

i had a promise u66 card working on a p120. the mobo was not even u33.

it was GREAT. larger than 8 GB drives, and everything =)

this was while i was building this current rig... i got the card, and installed it on an old computer.

it's around $20 something, so it's a steal just for that over 8GB deally, and saving an irq
