UDMA100 question

Is it better to install 2 UDMA100 drive in two different IDE controller?

which setup is better?

option1:
IDE1: IBM 75GXP (Master)
IDE2: WD UDMA100 (Master) / Toshiba DVD (Slave)

option2:
IDE1: IBM 75GXP (Master) / WD UDMA100 (Slave)
IDE2: Toshiba DVD (Master)

I remember reading somewhere if I mix UDMA100 with non UDMA100 than IDE does NOT use UDMA100? is this true?

It seems like file transfer faster if I splite 2 IDE Harddrive on different IDE controller.

I think option 2 is better (if both drives are UDMA 100).

WD UDMA100 (Master) / Toshiba DVD (Slave) <---- on this configuration, the transfer speed will synchronize the speed of the DVD, which is slower than the HDD.

and I think UDMA 100 is only enabled on the 1st IDE controller on most motherboards.... i'm not sure though.....

I thought the IMB did support UDMA 100?!

If it did then it would be a good idea to run both hard drives off 1 IDE channel becuase both will utilise the UDMA 100 fully.

Yes it is true that the DVD drive will slow down the data transfer of the HDD linked to it. But to be totally honist the slow down will most of the time not be very noticeable.

yes both Harddrives are UDMA100.

But when I am transferring files from IBM to WD, having HDs on two different IDE controller be faster?

No, The transfer would be slower with the second HDD on the same controller as the DVD as mentioned above, Your assuming the DMA controller can actuley multitask both channels and it doesnt, You are better off having both HDD's on same controller and gain the max DMA throughput as possible.
