UDMA Ultra 66

Is there a significant improvement in performance when you use a controller card (Promise?) for an EIDE drive (Seagate 10 gig Baracuda), as opposed to cabling directly to the primary channel on the motherboard?

I do digital video editing in Windows 98, and need all the performance I can get.

AND, come to think of it, if I am cabled directly to the MB, do I still need to check DMA in properties for that drive, in Device Manager? What is that for?

Thanks!

if the m/board ide controller is ata66 then you'll see little or no performance increase by using a controller card. the difference between ata66 & ata100 is bearly perceptable for real world stuff.
and yes, you should enable DMA for the hdd if it is possible for best performance!
