hi,

I am having trouble setting up the hard drive UDMA 66 mode in windows 2000. I have a maxtor UDA 66 20 GB 7200 hard drive which is set as primary master. The primary slave is another hard drive and the Secondary master and slaves are the DVD Rom and CD rom. I use a Ipression 771AS Motherboard which uses VIA kx 133 chipset and its UDMA 66 compatible south bridge (VIA 686A) I called Maxtor and they said To set up windows 2000 in UDMA mode I have to do some Registry editing which they couldn't tell me. Can anyone help me on that? If you want some more specs on my comp please let me know.
Thnaks

I tried whatever is mentioned there to change the registry and i removed the other hardrive too which was a slave in that channel. Enabled bios to UDMA mode. Still device manager shows its in PIO. If i Disable UDMA then only it works in DMA (not UDMA) otherwise when UDMA is enabled in bios it automatically goes to PIO after booing to win 2000 and degrade the performance cosiderably.

Did you get the via 4in1 drivers?
Via has bus mastering drivers on their website.

Yes i got the latest VIA 4 in1 drivers (updates on dec, 2000) from there website and under the device manager it shows that the driver is present. My guess its just hardware issue. My CD ROM and DVD Rom runs fine under UDMA on the other channel and I switched the channel with HD but the hrad drive still remain on PIO mode. the only time it works in DMA when I disable UDMA from bios.

Check Maxtor site if they have a utility that check & set the UDMA mode of the drive.

This should help you.. I'm about to do this tonight myself... found it @ pureperformance.com
UDMA66 file
You can download the registry patch above or manually edit the registry. Edit the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000 key and add a new DWORD value called EnableUDMA66 with a value of 1.
