UDMA 66 and Norton Disk Doctor

Ok guys,

I put together a system using an ABIT BE-6 II MB. I turned on the Highpoint controller, and put a Maxtor 15 GIG 5400 rpm UDMA 66 drive in it. Everything was working fine. Until Norton Disk Doctor or NDD was run.
It said the extended dos partition was bad, would it like for me to fix the problem? I said yes and it ended up wiping out one of the logical drive in the partition.:(
I had everything backed up, so I reloaded the drive and on the MB's BX controller....no problem?
On the highpoint controller......same thing happens again? Does NDD have a problem with UDMA 66, or could there be something else wrong? Thanks for any help:)

Yes that is it:) I did set NDD to not check for partition problems, but to me that does not seem to be the correct way to fix things. Interestingly when I hook the drive up to the native disk controller NDD had no problems, but when it is switched to the UDMA 66 one, the same data on the same disk. Ndd reports partitioning problems. Go figure?

I had the same problem with my first drive over 8GB and an older version of NDD. I also fscked the danged thing in the same way. So, this lesson was learned, as did you, the hard way. :)

I'm sure it's something with the way the controller is seen by NDD is all.

Ah yes, good find Damaged. My bro hosed his drive by letting it "fix". I also used to have this problem, and I think it was solved by one of the live updates to Norton System Works. At least for my system. I'm running WD's on Promise Ultra/66.

Well the version of NDD I am running is from Norton System Works 2001, you would think they would be able to handle UDMA 66 by now?:)
