In Russia, the Kremlin's senior foreign policy adviser, Sergei Prikhodko, told news agencies that the resolution placed Iraq's reconstruction firmly "back in the UN legal field under the control of the UN Security Council".
He added that the text "does not call into question the long-term agreements of Russian companies in the Iraqi oil sector" -- fuelling criticism from Russian newspapers including centrist daily Izvestia, which said Moscow had "sold" its vote to protect its Iraqi oil contracts and debt.
