HiYa

I just d/l'd the agent for UD and joined TeamAnandtech (JHutch2002)

Please tell me what you think I should know.

Thanks (in advance)

-Sid

PS: yepperz, it is installed and running

The client will run faster if you shut off screen savers and change your power settings so that turn off hard disks is set to never. Thats about all I know about optimising performance for UD.

Welcome to the TeAm!

can the agent be set up to run at something less than 100% so I doesn't stress my CPU so much? (heat)

The most obvious solution would be to quit OC'ing it above where I have to raise Vcore, but I'd rather not do that.

Distributed computing programs are designed to use all of your spare CPU cycles, basically they replace the system idle loop. I'm unaware of a way to reduce the performace of a DC client.

If you are having problems with heat when running UD then you probably will also have trouble while playing games or doing other CPU intesive tasks. So the best recommendation would probably be to back off the overclock or get better cooling so your CPU doesn't get harmed.

Thanks!

fortunately, I'm not having any difficulties (gaming or otherwise). I only do moderate O/C'ing. Backside temp stays at 50C or so under max load. It's well below what I would see with a stock HSF and no OC. I just wanted to reduce stress for extention of useable lifetime of the CPU and RAM.
On the upside, I usually upgrade long before I've had time to wear much of anything out.

I like the entire DC idea (well, maybe not the search for ET thingy) and will probably let it stay for a bit.

Glad to hear you are so enthusiastic about DC.

50C isn't anything to worry about. An Athlon processor shouldn't have any problems even if temps get up to 90C but staying around or below 60C is best.
