UD Server Bites the Big One! *UPDATE*

Insidious

This from the UD message board:

The database used to support the Cancer Research project has crashed. We are working with the software manufacturer to fix the problem, but it may be up to 24 hours before service is restored. During this time you will be unable to download and register the UD Agent as well login to your member pages. We are sorry for any inconvenience and we are working to resolve this problem as quickly as possible.

Must be Miller Time 😀

Yep, both my home computers have finished their current wu so they have been turned off for the first extended period of time in months. Hopefully they will be able to get the servers back up sometime today...

Try and look on the bright side.. this is the perfect opportunity for some maintainance.. blow out or vacuum out the dust, defrag drives, clean up the registry(if applicable), upgrade ram, tweak memory/fsb timings, etc. 🙂

Looks like we're back in buziness.......... From the UD forums

The database has been rebuilt, restored and re-depolyed. Your UD Agent will now attempt to connect to the server, return results and get a new work unit, however you may experience delays given the large number of Agents trying to connect. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and appreciate your continued support.

Happy pootin' to all and to all a ............. er, what rhymes here?

I've got systems running in dusty areas which the users leave on for months at a time (love NT)... I've had a few problems with CPU fans not spinning back up after the branch having a power outage or moving the PC. If it's been, like, six months of continuous uptime, open the case and use some compressed air to spin those fans, and don't forget the power supply! Power up with case open, and watch all fans, listening for funny (or not so funny) noises.

Then get back to crunching!

I already cleaned my main rig out when I added my new cdrw drive 2 weeks ago. Unfortunately my chipset fan is dying a slow noisy death, so I'm experimenting to see if it's really necessary (Abit KT7E). The other computer will be getting a complete workover as soon as I find another cheap(er) copy of XP.

Blowing out the dust and pet hair is always a standard service when ever I open a case. I can't believe how much dust my computer sucks in even through a filter...

Yeah Abit's chipset fans suck. My KT7's chipset fan was just removed since it made too much noise. The system is still very stable even though it is overclocked, but I do have very good airflow through the case. I also had a fan die on my KG7 so I just replaced the whole thing with a blorb. Abit needs to find a different fan manufacturer 😛

EDIT - Forgot to say "WOOT" about the server being back up 😉😀

I just noticed mine was giving the "Cannot connect with UD server....... Backing Off......... message (again)

It seems to be comming and going now rather than a "hard down".

(Nothing on the UD message boards about it though)

I'm thinking they need to replace their IT dept. with some of you AT peeps 😀

I believe that they are still dealing with the aftershocks of that crash. I almost had the data sent to the server then it stopped midstream so they probably are getting a second wave of people trying to send stuff in. People who do not follow the DC scene as closely, and people with dial-up service, like me.
