I didn't know it was that bad. My friends are flying up to visit me tomorrow. Insane.

Edit: As an ignorant NorCal resident, I tend to not care about fires. Like we have fires here, but they're always minor wildfires. I was from the peninsula where it's a lot more moist and it's never that big of a fire hazard compared to the east bay where it's dry (case in point Oakland 1994 fire). So I never really knew the SoCal fires were that terrible until my friend called me up saying he's flying up tomorrow.

Sorry, call me ignorant, but where are these fires coming from? Is it because SoCal is so dry (read: no humidity) that these fires are more likely to start?

but they will have to make that up, and I wouldn't be suprised if their vacation for winter got cut short by a week to make up for it.

there may be a benefit, but not wisthstanding the fact that they will have to pay more

SoCal is pretty dry, and granted there's not much we can do about it. However I'm pretty damn sure a lot of these fires have been caused by arsonists. Mother nature isn't the only one to blame here.
