Revelers celebrate UCSB's victory in the NCAA title game by tossing a goal into the ocean in Isla Vista.
Students celebrate on the beach with the goal from UCSB Harder Stadium.

While UCSB's soccer team was hoisting the National Championship trophy in frigid St. Louis, Gaucho fans back in warm (75 defg F on 4 Dec) sunny Santa Barbara were going loco in bars, on the streets and at the beach.

A group of what was reported as 200-500 students staged a parade down Del Playa Drive and to the beach after the thrilling 2-1 UCSB victory.

The fiesta began when about a dozen students went to Harder Stadium and snagged one of the goals sitting on the field. The fans then toted it all the way down to the cliffs of Del Playa and threw it over the side. It was then dragged into the tide and a penalty-kicking party ensued on the beach.

"It was insane. There were about 500 people headed down to the beach," said Susan Beresford, a senior majoring in business who watched the revelers from the backyard of her sorority sisters' house on the cliff.

"There were guys running around with cases of beer and everybody was shaking up the cans and spraying them everywhere."
