I got into UCSD, UCLA, and USC. My bud and my girlfriend are going to Stanford. My best friend is going to UCB. I might be the only person here not doing comp sci (either going to try and do MIS or perhaps education administration).

Id like some advice from you guys as to if I should go to USC or UCLA. (I can still go to either if i hurry). Also, what am I missing by not going to UCB or Stanford.

Also, a lot of ppl say "business school" is the best, most sure-fire path. My question has always been- what exactly does a business major do that an english major or a psych major could not do. Also, if any of you actually go to UCLA- what are the options if i do become interested in business-- econ classes?

Thanks

<< My second best bud and my girlfriend are going to Stanford >>

You have a smart Girlfriend their guy. Sounds like a keeper.

Do your best where ever you go and you won't be missing a thing. Also keep in mind that many people don't end up in a career based on their Major.

oh man.. that is a whole 'nother story.. the girl.. that is. She is Muslim.. took me like 3 months of concerted effort to even get her to admit she likes me.. and now that we graduated, her mom has all but banned me from seeing her... its a big, on going problem :( ( *really* like her)Thats why Im trying to think about academics ;)

dont come to ucsd if you want business, but if you want a great computer science degree UCSD is the place to be.

I can honestly say that you won't be missing anything from Berkeley that you couldn't get from any of the other colleges in terms of "college life". (except for maybe the hippies, protests, ppl on Telegraph :))

Congrats on getting into a SoCal school. You won't be missing much from Stanford or UCB. All the beauties are in the south!!!

I'm putting Stanford and Cal in parentheses since you didn't get in, but I don't want to hurt their egos by not including them in the discussion.

It doesn't matter which school you pick... UCLA, UCSD, USC, (UCB, Stanford)... they are all pretty much the same. What matters is your accomplishments in school.... as in your networking skills, grades, etc...

You might want to consider whether or not you want to have a "fun" atmosphere... UCLA, USC, (Stanford and UCB) will have that since they compete in Division 1 sports.

You could also consider financial obligations....
USC and (Stanford) are extremely expensive. You could do just as well paying less money at a UC school, because again, it depends on your achievements.

Go visit UCLA, USC and UCSD and see what campus you like. What campus do you think you can fit into? What are the surroundings like? Do you want to be by the beach? Conservative La Jolla, Hilly Westwood, or slummy but nice campus Mid-L.A... which one fits you? Go check them out, make your own decision.

As for areas of study... who cares, all will lead you somewhere. Most people change their majors 2 or 3 times so whatever ideas you might have now will most likely change.

As for business school... it doesn't matter, if its your thing great, but remember most business school require at least 2 years of experience outside of school, so it's not likely that you will go right into business school after undergrad, unless you are in a program. I really don't recommend going into a program because your education gets funneled into one specific area of study. You really should get real world experience so you can get an idea of what "business" discipline you want to get into....i.e. corporate finance, information science, entreprener (i gave up on the spelling), etc....
Maybe you want to be a CPA or CFO; there are separate classes/tests outside of business school that you need to take.

Bottom line: it doesn't matter which school you pick; they are all great schools. Just do well.

BTW, I'm a Bruin grad, hopefully I was somewhat objective.
Again, Congrats on getting into UCLA, USC and UCSD. Bruin, Trojan, Triton women... you can't go wrong.
