Looking for an apartment for next year, and I was wondering if anyone has any advice they can give me.

I'm looking for a 1 bedroom, good size, decently close to campus (south campus much more important than north campus of course).

My roommate and I are pretty much willing to pay any reasonable price (we're considering Midvale Plaza), as long as it's nice and big and in a good location, etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

Have fun, I hated apartment finding. Prices were outrageous when I was there several years ago, (finished in 01) my brother is renting a 1 bdrm right now for some obscene amount of money. He's on Levering and that little street, that goes between Levering and Landfair, close to Gayley. Jesus, I'm terrible, I lived near that intersection for 4 years. AEPi is on one end, and Club California is on the other.

club california is like $1500 for a 1 bedroom, 3 of my friends live in one, its pretty big, so one lives in the living room. studios are about $1000 on wilshire. all of the places are rapage, just varying levels.

hey, seriously, if you don't mind taking the bus too much, go south of wilshire... if you really want to save or get a really nice place for the same price as a place within walking distance, go almost south of santa monica.... i have a friend who's living on santa monica and berkeley, paying 100 bucks more than me for a 3 bedroom place, with each room being bigger than mine, and each room having a balcony... it's a little further, but WELL worth it if you don't mind taking the bus or carpooling or something (with the $$ saved you could get a motorcycle and ride to school ;))

Well, I really would rather live close to campus, cause it's easier to get together with my friends to study and all...

And dude... I don't want to say which two of you, but I talk to you guys all the time. I know there might be some lurkers on these forums, but why didn't you guys ever say anything before? SOOOOOO strange.

Anyway, thanks for the help. And keep the suggestions coming in.

Is Club California really worth it? cause it looks pretty expensive for what you're getting (unless it's huge or something).

And does anyone know anything about 424 Kelton? Cause I heard that was a pretty good place, and it looked nice too.

424 is soooooooo nice on the outside. i live at 430 (424's pink stepchild...)

face it: if you wanna live close, you're gonna get killed on rent. live with three other peeps and share a two bedroom. even if you go south of wilshire to get cheap rent its still gonna be four to an apt.

you can always try hilgard - they're expensive too. hehe.

midvale plaza = expensive... but t1 in your apt.

ooh one more thing - once you find a place you wanna live, make sure its somewhere you're willing to stay two years. i find a lot of people will just renew their lease for their fourth year because they don't want to move everything to another apartment.

I will be looking for something in the LA area in the beginning of August.
Any ideas?
I don't really mind where as long as it is a NICE place in a NICE neighborhood.

So far I have looked at places online on forrent.com and apartments.com and I was looking for something in the area Beverly Hills, Westwood, Brentwood, Santa Monica, La Brea, some places along Wilshire, Century City, Culver City, even Marina Del Ray, etc.
I'm looking for something that is ~$1500 for 2 Bdr. or ~$2250 for 3 Bdr. (maybe a little bit more expensive but not much).

Living in a nice neighborhood is one of the most important things for me.
And of course the place should be nice.

i live in the crazy party land known as 543-551 kelton. the parties which well my roomates have thrown, really arent that fun, unless you are raving drunk, which unfortunately for me, i never was since i had some project due or something the next day at pretty much every party.

too many people, too crowded, and well you dont know any of them. most of the time we are just trying to make sure no one ruins the whole complex.

also , i lived south of wilshire before, and like.... thought the places are nice, and cheaper, its kinda different just walking to your place near campus, along with your friends, and just its like, if you live nearby its like living in the dorms almost just more spread out. but when you live south of wilshire, you wont have people your age around you, its mostly young professionals over there, and you cant make any noise, you feel too old there i guess. parking is a lot better there, i guess there are pros and cons.

Yeah... I liked Midvale Plaza because of the T1 line...

I was kinda wondering, though if anyone knew like how big some of these places being mentioned are. I tried to talk to the landlady of Midvale to get a look, but she was pretty anal about letting people look since they were completely full.

Is there any place north of Wilshire where u can kinda get like a bigger living space?

Ive been living in one of their apartments on Kelton ave and have been pretty happy with everything. They have fully furnished whole, private and shared apartment options. Usually students live in their units. Def try them out! They do short term contracts also... Good luck! :)
