I reread the thing and it said one statement has to be at LEAST 600, not roughly 600. Mine was 583....:(

Those damned personal statements are about the only thing that you have to set yourself apart from everyone else that has the same GPA and extracirriculars as you do. Frankly its a load of bull. But I guess they have to do something to figure out who gets in. I know for a fact the only reason my ex-gf got into Berkeley is because of her sob story personal statement (it was true, but nevertheless). I hardly think its a valid criteria for being admitted into a top-tier university.

Are you sure it said has to be at least 600 and not should be? I really want to know because my bro is also applying.

It says it should be at least 600, yet it says not to go over 620. Well jeez, my sentences average about 16 words/sentence. One sentence too little is bad, one sentence too much is not accepted ;)

...and if they *do* count it, and disqualify you based solely on that criterion... do you *really* want to go to a place like that?

So it says should be and not has to be, right?

Or you're not white/asian;) You have to really have astronomical scores to negate the personal statement.

i concur.

knew someone in HS with very similar numbers and activities as me.

i've lived here my entire life, she wrote how she immigrated here from vietnam. guess who got into berkeley and who didn't?

i still got into UCLA though, so it wasn't the end of the world.
