i downloaded a live linux called ubuntu....for some reason it didnt work and it essentially froze during the boot, so i flipped the switch on my power supply and booted back into windows...for some reason, my user account did not show up and only the administrator was visible. i logged in as admin and tried to browse files i created with my normal user name...it wouldnt let me. now as far as i know, administrator in windows can do whatever the user wants, is this incorrect? so eventually i just got pissed and wanted to play some games so i booted into knoppix and played a game for about 10 minutes, got bored and decided to give windows a go, this time everything was normal. i said aloud, "WTF"...does anyone know what couldve happened? (also my question above)

As you have probably figured, this is more of a Windows forum - I suggest you ask your question here instead.

You my friend, are incorrect. There are many Linux users here, who can help out very much.

Quoted from the front page of the forums:

Windows 2K or not 2K? Is ME for you? Got an opinion to XPress? Discuss it here! What Operating System tickles your fancy? This is a forum for Unix, Linux, all flavors of Windows, BeOS, Solaris, OS/2, and virtually all other Operating Systems.

I stand corrected. But going 2 hours without a reply is rather unusual, you'll agree.

That's happened to me with several windows inquiries.

I vote coincidence. Any Linux live CD won't touch the hard disk unless you ask it to, espeically during bootup. If you're using NTFS the chances of it being able to write to NTFS without you forcing the issue are none.

the only time a live cd interacts with the hard drive that I know of is when it probes for the file system type, and mounts it. any live cd that I know of will only mount a hdd partition read only though.

plus, from my use of the ubuntu live disc, it doesn't even probe and mount the drives like knoppix does.
